Verified ReviewerRude mean cruel
Mean nurses are average looking people, they fight, and stand a lot in your faces. Awful people who lied to me several times.
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified Reviewer |I had an appointment for surgery at 11:00 am, and was done at 9:00 pm
The holding bay was awful and they kept changing the time of my surgery. I waited until 7:00 PM when they finally came and got me for hernia surgery.
I regained consciousness and they were trying to manage my pain. I was sent home at 9:00 PM with a prescription for pain medication. No pharmacy was open so I spent all night in pain. I was finally able to get my pain medication which helped.
However, between 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM, I should have been admitted for the night.
Don't they know that pharmacies are closed and there was no way to manage the pain? It was a horrible experience!
- No pros
- Hospital does not care for patients
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Go somewhere else, they are not going to put your needs ahead of them.
Stuck in ER FOR4 DAYS. NO BATH, NO changing of the bed. Room dirt.
My husband's was sent to ER from doctor due to blood clots in lungs, low blood pressure. Tomorrow will be day 4 in ER.
Room is dirty, bed never got changed, no bath or change of gown. He has a bed sore on bottom, only on 1st day was it taken care of. I asked to talkto charge nurse, never happen.
After that we were treated terrible. This is a shame.
User's recommendation: Go to different Er.

Verified Reviewer |Failure to provide quality care and proper nursing services
In a visit back in January to ortho-trauma at UAB, I had a MRI a few weeks later for my back related to spinal stenosis, neuropathy, and muscle spasms. There was a period of 2 months between my first appointment and my second appointment that I was later refused services by ortho-trauma clinic.
During that 2 month span, I phoned their clinic twice in that 60 day span to speak to someone concerning whether or not that clinic had ANY sort of treatment plan, I asked to speak to Dr. Rajaram or to his clinic care coordinator, which I was refused. A few days later I phoned again to ask that my upcoming appointment, the second one I was never able to attend because of being refused services to be changed from a physical appointment to a telephone appointment, which was also denied.
A few days later the clinic care coordinator called me and politely told me the clinic was refusing me services and that I should seek other care outside of UAB. Long story short I was essentially refused services because I advocated for myself, I questioned what or if a treatment plan even existed implied or otherwise.
- Other clinic are fine
- Hematology
- Primary
- Pain manangement is a joke
Preferred solution: actually get the pain management services I desperately need, and a full apology would'nt hurt my feelings after treating me like garbage.
User's recommendation: if you're seeking pain management GO ELSEWHERE especially if you're a Medicaid patient, they're counting on you giving up on a complaint.
Terrible ER “holding” location
Had to take my husband to the ER due to pending surgery there and a few days prior to the surgery he began spiking fever and became severely dehydrated. While the nurses and doctors in the ER were great the room was dirty but I could overlook that, since the ER provides private rooms.
HOWEVER due to his condition it was recommended that he stay for observation for 24 hours. After you leave the ER you are placed in a hallway to await getting placed in a room if no rooms are available. My husband is very sick and he is placed in a hallway with other patients with partitions separating them. No privacy, bright lights and its 2 am!
How is a sick patient supposed to rest this way. I would not recommend this ER to anyone that may need to be admitted!
User's recommendation: Don’t go if there’s a chance you may be admitted!
Terrible care!!
After surgery, there was no room available in the hospital, so the patient was put in a "holding area" overnight. It was extremely noisy and we hardly ever saw a nurse. No way the patient or their caregiver could get any rest.
User's recommendation: Don't stay overnight if you can avoid it!!
Dirty room!
Hair in the sink and all over the toilet. Bathroom mirror wasnt even wiped down.
I slept beside dried blood beside my bed. This is an easy job dont understand the laziness!
The treatment was awesome by the staff. Great food
- Food and teamwork
- Unclean
User's recommendation: Please make them reclean your room if it’s this dirty! Awesome hospital for such uncleanliness
Poor staff
When my husband first started coming here everything was great.. he would have numerous appointments a week and they would schedule him to where we would have several in a couple of days instead of running up there every day of the week..
now we get there and they say he was supposed to be here at this time and there at at that time..
they have no idea what is going on anymore.. I dont know what happened but something needs to change it makes it impossible for me to keep medical appointments..even the Drs have been upset on the way the schedule or dont schedule fix it UAB
Preferred solution: Better scheduling like it use to be.. where we had 3 days at uab and the other 2 for other appointments

Verified ReviewerIm so disappointed!
I was in the hospital in my town for 2 weeks. They weren't able to treat me so they sent me to UAB.
I've always heard wonderful things about them. All of my friends & family said UAB would be the best. They told me to go thru the ER. I was in there for 12 hrs!
I didnt see a dr for 16 hrs. I have Stasis Dermatitis. My skin is literally rotting off! So I tell them the pain is unbearable.
The dr says oh! Yes mam! Definitely! We will get u something for ur pain.
Of course! I was so excited bc i had been there 16 hrs & in pain the whole time. So what did they bring me?? Tylonal 325mg every 6 hrs I honestly thought it was a joke or something.
I mean my skin is rotting off & u give me 325mg of Tylenol! I will never go there again! My bed was never changed. I didnt get my lunch until 3:30pm.
They never got my meds straightened out so for 3 days I was out of my depression meds. I told them all they had to do is look at my pharmacy printout. They never did. They had me on a strict diet.
I asked why? Is it bc Im fat? Nurse said, bc ur diabetic! Looking at me like I'm crazy!
I said umm no. Im not.
Never have been. The whole thing was just a nightmare!
- Seem uneducated

Recent Hospitalization
I recently spent almost 3 weeks in the care of UAB. I've been in other hospitals over the years but UAB was amazing.
The staff, the Doctors, the Nurses. I was well informed as was my family about my Condition my care and home care. The doctors really seemed to care about the quality of care they were providing. The nursing staff on the floor I was on as well as ICU where I spent over week.
These were the best nurses I've seen or had in my life. Thank you

Lack of Communication
My dad has been coming to this hospital for his cancer care and twice for bowel obstructions. The infusion clinic is fine - the problems have always been with the teams not communicating with one another, especially when it comes to treatment with the bowel obstructions.
Every time there's a change in the plan, neither the nurses nor us know about any kind of change til about 3 or 4 hours after it's been made.
In the meantime, we've been sitting there all day waiting. My dad was supposed to have a procedure done today but because that wasn't communicated with the nurses, so they game him a blood thinner this morning. Now we have to wait another entire day for this procedure, when this easily could have be avoided if they'd told the nurses what they wanted to do.
The last time we were here, my dad needed a venting tube and the nurses didn't even know how to flush it because it was assumed they already knew how and didn't need extra training. We had to stay an additional 2 weeks because they kept breaking the thing.
It wasn't until one nurse finally admitted she didn't know what she was doing that the problem was finally resolved, and by that point we'd been at the hospital for an entire month.
On top of that, the nurses keep trying to give my dad solid foods while he has an NG tube in to empty his stomach.
Solid foods would clog the tube, but because jello counts as a liquid for some inexplicable reason, they keep trying to give it to him and he can't eat it. Both this visit and the last one have been fraught with a lack of communication and an unfortunate and highly disconcerting lack of common sense.
User's recommendation: If you can help it, avoid this place like the plague. The lack of communication blurs the line between professional and incompetent. It's not worth coming here.
Bad and rude employee
i came to visit and check on my prescription and was treated like meer criminal by a guest service person.
since then i changed my dr to another hospital
Preferred solution: Apology

Hospitals, Clinics and Medical Centers Expert Talks
If I had Nero doctors that was knowledgeable about spinal fluid leaks .
Spend four days for testing . I was admitted for a spinal leaks headache .
After testing was done the Nero admitted he has no knowledge of cervical spinal leaks. He should have asked for a Nero Sutgeon consult before discharging me. Called Duke University that day with my same symptoms, they kindly set me up with a Nero surgeon just send in my scans. UAB has specialist that could have helped me , I did not even get a referral to see a specialist outside of the hospital .
The doctors were well informed I have Mast Cell disease and only have a diet of 18 foods ( potatoes , rice sweet potatoes , apples chicken -and such ) I was placed on a diabetic diet , I am not diabetic though . I could not order any food from the menu line do to such . When it got fixed on the last day , they said we can send you GF toast but it will not be toasted and served frozen . We were also told rice , chicken , apples, baked potatoes can not be cooked on an individual basis .
So I had one meal in 4 days!!! My husband was running allover town looking for a basic chicken breast baked or grilled and rice . Those should be basics cooked everyday. I have been at Beookwood and Grandview and had no problem getting basic food needs.
My bedding was never changed while there, floors never cleaned , bathrooms never touched, nothing disinfectant ever !!! I will say the radiology dept experience was top notch and the best experience ever!
PCT only came around for vitals , you never get water refilled unless you ask several times, you are lacking badly behind Brookwood and Grandciew. I would stay by myself for days in those hospitals for my chronic illness , my husband never left my side while at UAB, it was my first and last time.
User's recommendation: Go to Grandview or Brookwood

My Mother went to UAB for some help having a tumor in the muscle of her eye and eye pain. Everyone says if a person has cancer this is the hospital to go to.
This hospital was not any help.
She was there for over 24 hours in the ER for the hosptialist Dr on duty to tell us that he is discharging her and there is nothing they can do. My Mom begged him to admit her to the hospital and do something for her cancer. He said no I am not admitting you I am sending you home and follow up with an eye Dr.
Her cancer is not in her eye it is in the muscle above her eye. She didn't need an eye Dr.
while she was there he had an eye Dr see her. She was treated terrible at this ER.
She is 84 years old and bed bound. I would not recomment this hospital to anyone. I sure hope they can look into what is going on and how the hospitalist Dr's treat patients.
This is unacceptable when patients need help in everyday life especially when patients can't help themselves.
This is less than a rating 1. I am very disappointed in this hospital.

They could care less if you keep complaining or not. The doctor runs that practice.
What you like or dislike about it doesn’t matter. You have been dismissed.
It doesn’t sound like you need an orthopedic surgeon. You need to find a pain management practice.
sounds like you did'nt read my post thoroughly, another misinformed voice from the peanut gallery, I was clearly talking about their JOKE of pain management @ the Pain Management "Clinic"
Nowhere in your post do you say pain management clinic. Under recommendations you say to seek pain management elsewhere, but that is the only place.
Your whole post is about your condition, an MRI done and a conveniently left out diagnosis such as you need surgery or physical therapy. Dr Rajaram is an orthopedic surgeon.
He fixes health conditions. If you need strictly pain medicine you need to look elsewhere.
are you one of his flunkies, or just an UAB insider, if you'd like his phone number I'd be happy to provide it to you, I'm not hiding from that *** or anyone else? Reality is you're NOT in my situation, go back to social media, your wisdom is sorely missed.
I forgot to add. I am not a misinformed voice.
I had your number before I made my first comment. So quit wasting everyone’s time and go to a true pain clinic. Sign their pain contract, monthly urinalysis, them counting your pills and constant physician and prescription monitoring. I’d say that’s pretty informed for someone in the peanut gallery.
PS. They will also track any/all urgent care and ER visits.
no kidding guy well aware, have you ever been a cancer patient, I have 3x so I'm WELL aware how "pain management "works, thankfully in remission, my current issues are'nt particularly related.
