Never again

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Arrived at 5 pm in accute pain, face numbness and other possible stroke related symptoms. I was registered at 9PM. I went to the desk to find out how muck longer the wait will be. They told me that they did not know. They took my blood pressure to make me forget how long I had been waiting. It was 165/121. I was told to go back to the waiting room. It is now 10:30 and I am still in the waiting room. Never again!!!!!

Cooper green rises from the ashes

Wow read these reviews and take them to heart. The ER at uab should be shut down. Zero communication. This place is beyond broken. New administration couldn’t work this mess out. Uab is circling the drain.

Father dies in ER

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
On Veteran's Day , my father was rushed to UAB emergency via ambulance. Once we got there he had no pulse. The doctor told us how sorry she was and said that we could go back and say goodbye. Once we got back there they were still working on him feverishly but you could tell that he was already dead. His eyes were open and he was naked on the table. They were looking at us like...see we are trying...just shocking for us. I would rather have seen him when they were done.

Worst ER experience I’ve ever had

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The worst experience I’ve ever had at an ER. The staff was fine when we first arrived but i guess we asked them how much longer one too many times.

Of course we have been here for over 9hrs so asking every three hours seemed exceptable to me. They keep telling us there are no rooms available, which I find hard to believe, but several of us sitting here have been here for 7-9hrs. Here goes 10hrs. Maybe they’ll see us some time this week.

I don’t ever write reviews but I’m going to post this review on any site I can to warn people. Drive to st Vincent’s or brookwood, it’s worth the extra 15min

Waited at UAB Birmingham ER for 10 Hrs 20 Min

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My sister-in-law is very sick. She has had MS for 14 years, and now has throat cancer. Her oncologist is at Kirklan, but she just completed 35 radiation treatments in Decatur where she lives. She is having side effects from the radiation and her throat and mouth are burning, causing her inability to eat or drink without severe pain. She has lost 36 lbs, the last 6 during this last week because she has been unable to eat for 5 days. She also has fallen three times in the last two weeks, hitting her head on two occasions. She called the oncologist in Decatur that gave her the treatments and was told to see Dr. Carroll at Kirklan. They called his office to see if he could see her, and she was told to ask for him at the ER because he could not see her in the office. She checked in at 12:30 PM on Thursday, 7/27/17. They saw her in Triage within an hour, checked her vitals several times during the day, and finally brought her back to the ER to see a doctor at 10:54 PM. I asked 3 people during the course of the day and she asked 2 people. They said they were doing their best. She asked the Triage nurse that saw her when she arrived and he rudely said, "Because the people in the back are sicker than you are." She also asked if the oncologist was notified that she was there, and he said, "The doctors should check with us before they send people here to see what kind of shape we are in first." She weighs 100 lbs, and is sick. The room temperature in the waiting room had to be 65 degrees or less. She was freezing. They could not give her a blanket, yet someone in a wheelchair got one from someone back there. When she was called back, there was not one single person in the waiting room that was there before she was. Several came after her and were seen. We watched them come and go. Some were young, and looked pretty healthy. My sister-in-law is 56 years old, with MS, throat cancer, and had fallen and hit her head. After she was seen 10+ hrs later, the doctor immediately did blood work and a CT of her head. She was dehydrated, no brain bleed, but ordered an MRI. It was determined that she probably has a concussion, and she was admitted. Her mouth is deeply infected with a yeast infection from the radiation. The next 18 hours, from midnight Thursday to 6 PM Friday, were spent in a holding room waiting for a bed. This "holding room" was a supply room. This poor woman did not say she had chest pain or was short of breath when she arrived, so she was deemed, "not as sick as the other patients." We sat quietly for all those hours, only asked a few employees as they walked by if they knew how much longer she had to wait. Most were kind, but they were not the ones deciding.

Uab er is ridiculios

My sisters Dr called uab and told them it was urgent they saw my sister...yet she's been sitting in the we waiting room over 9 hrs... This is completely uncalled for.. I understand they get busy but seriously leaving patients in the we 9 and 12 hrs come on... That's completely insane! Especially when u view their ratings and wait time and it says 30 something minutes wait time.... Something should be done...uab used to be an awesome hospital...top in the US now I would honestly be worried to even send a pet there... They do not take their patients into consideration... Completely sad they let such a great place go downhill so much..

Emergency room visit

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My doctor sent me to Highland emergency due to pain in stomach and back. Sat in emergency area for 6 hours before being seen.

Nurse at desk for first hour was amazing and kind. Man who replaced her was rude, disconnected ( more interested in the tv than his surroundings. ) he could not be interested in helping a woman who had been there same time as me directions to a water fountain. He was rude to me when I asked him if he could tell me approx.

how many patients were in front of me on 5th hour. I asked him to repeat his initial response to me in a more respectful way as his first response was highly demeaning. " who are you?" He asked gruffly. Nurses and techs were awesome and caring.

Doctor who came in after my tests was even more rude and just said follow up with your doctor. We didn't find anything life threatening you can go home. No after care for home instructions or even a hint of why I needed to follow up with Doctor? This was my first and hopefully last visit to a UAB emergency.

I may opt to get out of the UAB system altogether.

I am 59 yrs old and have been to many emergency rooms for myself and family members , this was by far the worst experience ever!! Cut or

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

One week before Transplant HLA lab called me said we lost your blood sample that you sent UPS overnight.Iasked do I need to do another can be there in 5 hours? They said not to worry if problem we will do a blood check day before Transplant.

Crista Allen called me two days before surgery told your transplant is cancelled send me another donor to test?...Dr young was surgeon and the information they gave me that my antibodies was high was total *** as was also tested elsewhere and told no changes. Maybe if he was Jewish instead of African American he would have done repeated blood test on me and donor?

Kirkland Clinic Appointment Complaint

My name is Sarah H. Elkin, Columbus, Ms. phone 662-328-****. I had three appointments today and was quite stressed out before I had completed them. First of all, I have been very pleased with the service of the clinic, the staff and the doctors. I see Dr. Yamada and Dr. Tallaj. I am a heart patient; had an ICD implant last Sept. My appointments were at 8:45 with Dr. Yamada, at 9:45 for an eco, and 10:45 with Dr. Tallaj. I arrived at the clinic from Columbus at 8:30, went to the appointment desk, was told I needed to have the eco before my doctors' appointments, so I proceeded to that department. I arrived there at about 8:35 and stated my case. I was told to have a seat. I sat there two hours, was finally seen about 10:30. I ended up in Dr. Tallaj's office at 11:30. My son, Donnie, also had an appointment at 9:30 with Dr. Tallaj, so I rode with him. Never have I had to wait like this. I have complimented Kirkland Clinic about the staff's promptness with appointments. My son had to be back in Columbus to work at 3:30 - 4:00. Both doctors were aware of this and helped me rush through my appointments with them. And I was told to let you know of my situation. It takes us 2 1/2 to 3 hours driving time to get back home. I hate to complain as I've always been treated wonderfully before. So I've stated my case. I'll come alone next time even though I'm 81 years old. I'm in good health, thanks to your doctors' treatment and don't mind. Anyway hope I'm sending this to the correct place.

Uab Hospital Nurse Review from Humble, Texas

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
UAB hospital in Birmingham Alabama is probably one of the worse hospitals for care. The nurses (especially Angela on the 6th floor of Wallace Spain) is one of the worse nurses. The doctors don't make their rounds and when you see them in the hall they turn the other way to avoid you. The nurses sit around at the nurses station on their cell phones with their feet propped up on a chair of desk. To me this is not a good hospital. I would never recommend UAB university of Alabama hospital in Birmingham Alabama to anyone. The care is simply not up to par with other hospitals in the immediate area. Avoid this hospital if you can.
